July 2, 1984, Willie Richmond began what turned into a 28 year long career with Memphis Communications Corporation. Over the years of being a faithful employee, Richmond had the opportunity to see MCC grow into the company it is today. The number of employees that grace the halls have grown to 100, which is a long way from when he started and he was one of 8.
A company strives to find, hire and hold onto employees like Willie. In the beginning of his service to MCC he wore many hats. Being the hard worker that he is, no tasks were too minimal or too daunting to attempt and give 100%. Richmond did eventually settle into his permanent role as Shipping Manager for Materials Management where he has kept his shipping department running smoothly day in and day out.
A retirement party was held with surprise guests that included his wife, Rosa Richmond, sisters, Jessie Thomas and Ruby Morgan, son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Tanya Richmond, along with brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Znobia Henderson.
Another unexpected surprise was not only the first employee ever hired at MCC, Don Austin, but the Founder and Chairman Emeritus Dean Berry, Jr.
As Berry revealed his presence, emotions filled the room. He delivered a heartfelt recognition speech of Richmond’s long time career with MCC. Richmond was presented with a plaque to honor his faithful years of service which read “May God bless you in retirement as you have been a blessing to your MCC family” along with additional monetary gifts from the executive and administrative offices.
Richmond will continue to work until the end of February when he will finally hang his MCC hat. He now begins a new chapter in his life. We thank him for all his dedicated years and wish him all the best.
